Capping, Lamination and Good Science

Many people around the world believe that the knowledge base for determining what
causes capping and lamination is constant and static.
This is not the case. In fact if you were to look in one of our textbooks that was printed
in the late 1980’s you would see that at that time there were generally 8 accepted
root causes of capping. Today in 2010 the list of root causes has increased to 11.
And can you be sure if it’s capping or lamination? Sure. Look at the picture above.
Capping only happens at the top of the tablet. Anywhere else and it’s lamination. And
even experts make mistakes. Don’t believe me? Go to your Yahoo or Google or
whatever and type in this title:
“Occurrence of Capping Due to Insufficient Air Escape During Tablet Compression
and a Way To Prevent It”
Look at figure 9b. They call it capping but compare the photo to the illustration above!
