Powder on the Tablet Press: Taken for Granted and “Killing Me Softly”
|
In this photograph we see two different presses at two different companies with the same problem. Powder, powder
everywhere. This situation is quite common and totally unacceptable. Why? Loose powder is one of the three enemies
of the tablet press operator (the other two are moisture and air in the powder).
Even if you have older, worn out presses you must address this problem to maintain tablet quality and to minimize
damage to the press parts. For damage and lost yields, lost quality and more maintenance costs are directly linked to
this lapse of good production judgment. If you are a small operation it is all the more important to take the time to
instruct your operator on how to correctly adjust a tablet press and how to keep it clean. Remember the old adage: “A
stitch in time saves nine”.
