“Final” Blending for solid dosage is actually a two part operation.

The final blending process is actually a two part process: blending the components to as near a “perfect blend” as possible and then
blending in the lubricant. Both sections of this process are important to understand and achieve. And how does one achieve as close to a
“perfect blend” as possible? By initiating a sampling blend for each product we want to blend.  For example, in this illustration we see a
sample map from a twin shell blender showing 8 typical sample points.

And in this illustration we see the results of these 8 points at 3 minute intervals. Notice that the samples at first are very widespread and
then become tighter as time passes. In this example the samples have the tightest spread at just under 15 minutes. Past 15 minutes and
the results begin to spread out again (and would eventually return to the unblended state if we continued long enough). So to achieve our
goal of a near perfect blend, we would stop the process at about 12 minutes and add the lubricant at that time.

What is the best practice for adding the lubricant? Ideally, for solid dosage formulas, we want to adequately mix in the lube without over
coating all the powders. Depending upon the type of mixer and the capacity, lubricating times will vary. We recommend adding the lube
through a 30 mesh screen and blending for 3-5 minutes.
